The newly appointed Service Chiefs arrived at the National Assembly complex on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, for screening by the Senate.
Naijaonpoint reports that the new service chiefs got to the National Assembly premises at about 10 a.m., accompanied by senior military officers.
The Senate had on Tuesday rescheduled the screening to Wednesday, October 29, reversing its earlier plan to hold the exercise next week.
The screening followed a letter from President Bola Tinubu, which was read by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, during plenary.
In the correspondence, Tinubu urged lawmakers to give expeditious consideration to the confirmation process in order to ensure continuity in the nation’s security coordination.
Akpabio explained that the shift in date was necessary to allow the new military leaders to assume duty without delay.
On October 24, Tinubu announced changes in the hierarchy of the Armed Forces, replacing the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, with General Olufemi Oluyede.
Others appointed include Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.
The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General Emmanuel Undiendeye, retained his position.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare. All the appointments take immediate effect.
The new Chief of Defence Staff, General Oluyede, only became Chief of Army Staff last year following the death of General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.
As CDS, Oluyede replaces General Musa, who, along with Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla and Air Marshal Bala Abubakar, had been in office since June 2023.
The outgoing service chiefs oversaw major operations against Boko Haram, ISWAP, and armed bandits in the North-East and North-West.
Although their tenure recorded some notable successes, continued attacks by gunmen in different parts of the country intensified calls for fresh leadership and a change of strategy.
