Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Jedi Knights #8An all-new Star Wars story lets you see the galaxy far, far away through the eyes of a Jedi, allowing you to truly experience wielding the Force. From initial recruitment, unexpected dangers, surprise appearances, and new beginnings, this new Star Wars story is unlike anything we’ve seen before with this new first-person format.
Coming from Marc Guggenheim and Madibek Musabekov, Marvel’s canonical Jedi Knights #8 is a wholly unique project compared to the previous seven issues. Revealing the origins of a youngling named Soona, readers experience her entire journey from leaving her homeworld for the first time to Coruscant’s iconic Jedi Temple, and it’s all completely from her personal perspective, POV-style.
Star Wars’ New Comic Lets You Experience The Galaxy Through A Jedi’s Eyes
This new Star Wars issue opens with a pair of Jedi Knights promising young Soona the wonders of the galaxy and a new purpose for her life, perfectly highlighting the true cost and sacrifice when choosing the Jedi path.
Likewise, the entire ordeal is uniquely charged with emotion as we’re seeing everything through this child’s eyes, including the sadness of her parents as they let her go, but still wanting their daughter to reach her full potential.
Additionally, there’s a truly great splash page moment where Soona gets to see a jump to lightspeed for the very first time as the Jedi’s T-6 Shuttle travels through hyperspace
From the unique angle and eyes of small, young Soona, the cockpit and beauty of hyperspace are massive as the galaxy is quite literally opening itself up to this child for the very first time. However, the subsequent dangers that meet Soona and her protectors feel equally large and terrifying as the issue continues.
This New POV Style For Star Wars Stories Is Pure Genius
Thanks to a band of pirates, Soona finds herself caught in some Jedi action far sooner than expected, which also leads to a surprise appearance from Jedi Master Kelleran Beq, the same Jedi who rescued Grogu during Order 66 as seen in The Mandalorian season 3.
Rescuing Soona after her Jedi Knight escorts were killed by pirates, Soona finds herself with the opportunity to assist her rescuer, using the Force (without training) and wielding a lightsaber for the very first time (providing enough of a distraction for Master Beq to gain the upper hand).
Especially for longtime Star Wars fans, it’s easy to take the wonders of the galaxy for granted. After all, how many times have we seen lightsabers ignited or starships jumping to lightspeed?
Guggenheim and Musbekov have done something truly genius here, allowing us to literally step into the shoes of a young Jedi, to see those classic elements with a fresh new point of view (literally).
With this new story, we’re now the ones using the Force and experiencing hyperspace for the first time. It’s a unique experience that puts things in a bright new light, one that certainly makes this unique Star Wars issue a must-read and a peak addition to any comic collection.
