New Tinubu Barracks In Abuja Can Accommodate 170 Officers And 444 Soldiers – Oluyede

The Chief of Army Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, says the newly commissioned Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks in the Asokoro district of Abuja would solve some of the accommodation challenges in the Nigerian Army.

According to him, over 40 percent of the Nigerian Army personnel are without accommodation.

However, the newly constructed barracks can accommodate 614 personnel consisting of 170 officers and 444 soldiers.

The COAS made the declaration on Thursday in the presence of President Bola Tinubu during the commissioning of the new edifice while pleading for the accommodation challenges among troops and officers to be addressed.

“Your excellency may recall that on the assumption of the office of the chief of army staff, one of the critical issues on the table before you was the fact that about 40 percent of Nigerian army personnel are not accommodated,” Oluyede said.

Giving a breakdown of the project, Oluyede explained that the barrack consists of 16 Major General Quarters, 34 Brigadier General Quarters, 60 Major-Colonel Flats, 60 Lieutenant-Captain Flats, 180 Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Flats, 264 Corporal-and-Below Flats, Worship centres, sports facilities, and a powerhouse.

“In specific terms, the project comprises 16 major general quarters, 17 brigadier general quarters, 3×20 family major to colonel quarters, 30×20 family lieutenant to captain quarters, and 60×30 family senior non-commissioned officers’ quarters.

“Others are 6×30 family corporal and below quarters, 40×21 corporal and below quarters. These translate to accommodation for 614 personnel consisting of 170 officers and 444 soldiers and their families,” he said.

General Oluyede commended the President for his interest in the welfare of the Army personnel, noting that the new barrack was named after Tinubu as a “humble way of giving honour to whom honour is due.”
