Newlywed Groom Allegedly Stabbed To Death By Wife Three Days After Wedding

A newly married groom, Abubakar Abdulkarim, popularly known as Dan Gaske, has been allegedly stabbed to death by his wife just three days after their wedding in Jibia town, Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The couple married on Thursday, November 18, 2025, but tragedy struck on Sunday afternoon when the groom was reportedly attacked in his sleep.

Residents told journalists that the wife allegedly stabbed her husband in the neck with a knife while he was asleep, killing him instantly.

A family member, Aminu Danladi, said he was with the groom earlier that morning as they discussed preparations for a family visit scheduled for later in the day.

Danladi also dismissed rumours making the rounds in the community that the marriage was forced.

Community sources told Daily Trust that the wife, identified as Zainab Muhammad, a Katsina-born woman in her 20s, was introduced to the groom by his nephew, who was her classmate at Government Girls Secondary School, Jibia.

It was also gathered that Zainab had previously been married and divorced, a detail the groom’s family allegedly did not know before the wedding.

Sources said the killing likely occurred between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday.

After the incident, Zainab was said to have gone to a neighbour’s house asking for food in a visibly confused state. Her unusual behaviour reportedly raised suspicions among older women in the area.

When they followed her back home, they discovered the groom lying dead in the house and immediately alerted security operatives.

Security officials were called to the scene shortly after the discovery, although details of the investigation are yet to be made public.

Police Public Relations Officer in Katsina, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, in a statement on Monday, said, “On November 23rd, 2025, at about 1:30pm, a report was received at the Jibia Division that one Abdullahi (not his real name), a newly wedded groom, was found motionless in a pool of blood in his residence situated in Tashar Buja quarters, Jibia Local Government Area, Katsina State.

“Upon receipt of the report, detectives were quickly drafted to the scene, where the victim was found lying motionless in a pool of blood with a deep cut to his neck. The victim was taken to the nearest hospital for immediate medical attention; unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival by the doctor on duty.

“One person is in custody, suspected to be in connection with the offence as investigation is underway to unravel the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.

“The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Bello Shehu, assured the public of a diligent and thorough investigation into the matter and urged anyone with useful information to come forward and assist the investigation.”
