Ngige dismisses death rumours after convoy attack

Chris Ngige 1

Former Anambra State governor and ex-Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige, has refuted rumours of his death following an armed attack on his convoy by unidentified assailants.

Gunmen struck along the Nkpor–Nnobi Road in Idemili North Local Government Area on Wednesday, killing a woman and injuring Ngige’s police orderly, whose rifle and uniform were seized.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday at his country home in Alor during a visit by Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, Ngige explained that he had dispatched aides on errands, including taking a vehicle for maintenance, when they were ambushed near Umuoji.

“As you can see, I am alive; I am not dead, so there should be no panic or fear. They attacked my convoy while my aides were coming back. The assailants, dressed in police and army uniforms, chased after them and began shooting,” he said.
