WATCH THE VIDEO HERE By Emmanuel Adams A non governmental organisation under the auspices of Global Promoters for Community Initiative has called on journalists to help sensitise the public on the dangers and penalties of gender based violence and discrimination against people living with disabilities in Niger state. Making the call af One Day training program for journalists and Gender equality and Women empowerment officials (GEWE), the Project Director, Olasukanmi Kalejaiye said the training was organised to enlighten participants on the need to build synergy with Civil Society organisations in order to report proven cases of such violences, thus empowering survivors to demand and get justice for such acts against them. Also, the Director Planning, Research and Statistics, Ministry of Women Affairs, Mary Yisa, said that Gender Based Violence and gender inequality have negative effects on the victims, survivors, their families and the society. She added that the Ministry is committed and ready to collaborate, support and encourage policies and strategies that will curb the menace. Earlier, the Director for National Human Rights, Niger State, Hasanna Mayaki said their doors are open and are ready to support people who need to have their rights fought for. The media was urged to help in the effective coverage and dissemination of sensitive reports as they concern gender based violence in the society.
