The Federal Government has been urged to launch a sweeping investigation into the financial records of all Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) operating within the country.
This call follows growing concerns that several of these organizations may be deviating from their humanitarian mandates to serve as conduits for illicit financial flows.
Popular Nigerian reality star and comedian, DeeOne, raised the alarm in a detailed video shared via his Instagram page on Wednesday.
He expressed deep-seated worries over what he characterized as suspicious and unlawful operations being executed under the guise of charity.
According to the entertainer, many of these entities are allegedly being utilized as tactical fronts to bankroll high-level crimes, including terrorism, kidnapping, and child trafficking.
He argued that the sudden rise in the wealth of some NGO founders immediately after “rescue missions” warrants immediate scrutiny from national security agencies and financial regulators.
In his words: “Federal Government of Nigeria, please investigate all the NGO accounts in the country. A lot of them are being used to sponsor terrorism, kidnappers, child trafficking and even human harvesting.”
DeeOne further emphasized the need for a comprehensive audit of all NGO finances. While acknowledging the importance of humanitarian aid, he maintained that such activities must not provide a shield for criminality or thrive at the cost of Nigerian lives.
He noted that the current trend suggests a pattern where individuals leverage public sympathy to enrich themselves through questionable means.
“Please do a thorough investigation on all these NGO accounts. In Nigeria today, once somebody rescues another person, the next thing is they open an NGO and suddenly become multi-millionaires,” the comedian alleged.
Reiterating that his stance was not against legitimate wealth creation, he insisted that transparency must be the bedrock of any charitable organization.
“We are not saying people should not make money, but it has to be legitimate and not at the expense of people’s lives,” he concluded.
