TROOPS of the Nigerian Army, in joint operations with hybrid forces and aided by intelligence from the Department of State Services (DSS), neutralised at least 45 bandits during an operation on Friday evening in Iburu village, located in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to security sources, the DSS had intercepted intelligence indicating that armed terrorists, traveling on multiple motorcycles, were planning an attack on Iburu and nearby communities.
Prompt alerts were issued to soldiers in the area, leading to a swift military response.
A heavy exchange of gunfire followed, resulting in the deaths of no fewer than 45 attackers. Local residents reportedly counted over 40 bodies of the slain terrorists and witnessed the destruction of numerous motorcycles used by the assailants.
Tragically, two members of the hybrid security forces fighting alongside the troops were killed during the encounter. Four others sustained serious gunshot injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a public hospital in the state capital.
