Human rights activist, Annkio Briggs, has called on the immediate past sole administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, to give a full account of how the state’s resources were spent during his tenure.
Briggs made the demand during an appearance on Sunday Politics, a current affairs programme on TV, where she accused Ibas of mismanaging state funds within the six months he administered the state.
“He (Ibok-Ete Ibas) spent our money. He has to account to the people of Rivers State, even to Nigerians, for the sake of integrity and for the sake of justice and fairness,” Briggs said.
The activist argued that Ibas, a former Chief of Naval Staff, could not simply walk away after managing the state’s finances without presenting a detailed report of his stewardship.
“You can’t come into a state, get hold of all its resources and funds, stay there for six months, and just walk away as if you were never there. He was here for six months, and within that period, he spent our money. That’s the truth. It is Rivers people’s money,” she added. Briggs insisted that accountability was non-negotiable, stressing that public office holders must be held responsible for how they manage the people’s resources.
