FRESH accounts have emerged from survivors of Tuesday’s bandit attack on Salka community in Magama Local Government Area of Niger State, where several residents lost their lives, many sustained injuries, and more than 1,000 cows were stolen.
One victim narrated how the assailants confronted him, revealing that they argued among themselves before pulling the trigger.
“While they were confronting me, one of them warned his colleague not to shoot, but he still went ahead and fired,” the survivor recounted.
“I tried to resist before he overpowered me. Eventually, they shot me and left me behind.”
Another resident also sustained gunshot wounds during the raid and has since been taken to Yawuri General Hospital in Kebbi State for treatment.
Eyewitnesses who managed to escape said they secretly recorded the incident, capturing video footage of the gunmen riding into the community on motorcycles, shooting sporadically, and making away with the rustled cattle.
The attack, which extended beyond Salka to neighboring Ibeto and Koso, has once again fueled urgent calls for decisive action from both the Niger State Government and the Federal Government to curb the escalating wave of insecurity in the region.
