WATCH THE VIDEO HERE THE Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has officially transferred 1,599 assorted firearms and 2,298 live cartridges to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW). During the handover ceremony in Lagos today, NCS Comptroller General Adewale Adeniyi presented the seized weapons to NCCSALW Director General Johnson Kokumo. He revealed that some importers of the confiscated arms have been convicted, while others are still undergoing legal proceedings. Adeniyi further disclosed that 11 suspects linked to the arms trafficking network were handed over for further investigation and possible prosecution. He emphasized the NCS’s commitment to securing national borders through targeted anti-smuggling operations and intelligence-driven interventions. Speaking on behalf of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, Johnson Kokumo lauded the collaboration between Customs and other security agencies in curbing illicit arms circulation. Ribadu reaffirmed the government’s dedication to preventing the proliferation of illegal weapons. This is not the first time the NCS has intercepted illegal arms shipments. In May 2018, the agency seized 440 pump-action rifles hidden in 516 bags of Plaster of Paris (POP) cement at the Tin Can Island Port. Further investigations uncovered two additional containers filled with firearms concealed among sanitary wares.
