The Federal Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Denmark to strengthen collaboration on digital transformation, technology, and innovation, in a move aimed at accelerating inclusive economic growth.
The pact was signed through the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy during the Nordic–Nigeria Connect Conference held in Lagos, themed “Forging Partnerships for Sustainable Impact.”
Speaking at the signing, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, described the partnership as a major step in Nigeria’s drive to build a digital economy anchored on innovation and global collaboration.
“This represents the beginning of many things to happen between Denmark and Nigeria,” Tijani said.
“President Bola Tinubu has mandated our ministry to drive an inclusive digital economy through strategic international partnerships. That’s not going to be doable if we don’t partner with the right countries that share the same vision as us, and that’s what we’ve found in Denmark.”
He explained that the partnership will focus on knowledge exchange, digital infrastructure, and skills development to help Nigeria realise its ambition of becoming a key digital hub in Africa.
On her part, Denmark’s State Secretary for Trade and Investment, Lina Gandiese Hansen, said the MoU was a direct outcome of Tijani’s recent visit to Copenhagen, where he inaugurated the Nordic-Africa Summit during the Tech Barbecue innovation festival.
“When Nigeria calls for collaboration, Denmark responds,” Hansen said.
“Our two nations share a strong commitment to advancing technology, digitalisation, and innovation as tools for sustainable growth and global competitiveness.”
She noted that Denmark sees Nigeria as a strategic partner in Africa’s emerging digital landscape and looks forward to long-term cooperation that will benefit businesses and citizens in both countries.
The conference also witnessed strong expressions of commitment from sub-national governments.
Representing Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Chief of Staff Samuel Egube said the fourth edition of the Nordic–Nigeria Connect had moved “from invitation to implementation.”
“With over 400 companies participating, partnerships are now taking root and delivering results,” Egube said.
Similarly, Enugu State Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai reaffirmed his state’s readiness to deepen cooperation with Nordic partners, particularly in agriculture, digital education, and energy, to enhance food security and sustainable development.
According to organisers, the agreement will strengthen Nigeria’s digital infrastructure, promote technology-driven enterprises, and expand opportunities for innovation across key sectors such as agriculture, energy, logistics, and trade.
The Federal Ministry said the partnership aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration, which prioritises digital inclusion, job creation, and economic diversification through innovation.
“We are building a sustainable pathway for Nigeria’s digital economy, one that connects our innovators, entrepreneurs, and institutions with global partners to create lasting impact,” Tijani added.
With the new MoU in place, Nigeria and Denmark are expected to launch a series of joint initiatives in capacity building, digital policy reforms, and startup collaboration, positioning both countries as frontrunners in Africa-Nordic technology cooperation.
