The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) has expressed concern over the state of governance in Nigeria, warning that the country is edging closer to full-blown dictatorship under the Bola Tinubu-led government.

In a statement issued on Friday to mark Eid-el-Maulud, the forum said citizens are grappling with worsening poverty, hunger, and insecurity despite Nigeria’s vast resources.

The statement, signed by Emmanuel Agbo, Director-General of the forum, quoted Bala Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi and forum chairman, as saying that the disconnect between the people and constituted authority had deepened.

The forum said: “Today, our country is at a crossroads as Nigerians get disconnected from the constituted services they deserve.

“As we inch daily to full-blown dictatorship with its attendant abuse of power, and citizens live in abject penury in the face of plenty, leadership is once again called to urgently address insecurity, our compromised judicial system, failed economic policies resulting in intolerable hunger, poverty and unemployment.”

The governors urged leaders at all levels to embrace accountability, humility, kindness, and truth in service.

They also described Eid-el-Maulud as a moment of peace and reflection, urging Nigerians to draw inspiration from the Prophet Muhammad’s values of compassion, tolerance, justice, and unity.

The forum reaffirmed its commitment to working for a just, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria while praying for strength and unity for the nation.
