The strategic military relationship between Nigeria and India received fresh momentum on Tuesday following a high-level visit by the Indian Defence Adviser to Nigeria, Colonel Manoj Singh, to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
Colonel Singh, during the courtesy visit, commended the Nigerian Army’s relentless efforts in addressing security challenges nationwide and expressed India’s commitment to bolstering defence ties with Nigeria.
He pledged New Delhi’s readiness to increase military training slots for Nigerian officers and expand technical exchanges between the two armed forces.
“We are willing to broaden the scope of our cooperation, including training, technical support and other areas of mutual interest,” Singh noted.
Responding, the Chief of Army Staff described India’s military partnership as “invaluable,” especially in the areas of training, capacity building and defence technology.
He emphasised the importance of strengthening cooperation in counter-terrorism operations, intelligence sharing, logistics and professional development.
“The partnership between our two countries has contributed significantly to our military development, and we look forward to further enhancing collaboration,” General Shaibu said.
The visit ended with the presentation of souvenirs to Colonel Singh by the COAS, followed by the signing of the visitors’ book and a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.
