Nigeria Labour Congress endorses Kano state governor for second term

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kano State Chapter, has formally endorsed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for a second term, applauding his exceptional commitment to the welfare of workers and retirees in the state.

The endorsement was delivered by NLC State Chairman, Comrade Kabiru Inuwa, during the 2025 International Workers’ Day celebration held at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.

Comrade Inuwa hailed Governor Yusuf as a “trailblazer,” noting that he is the first Nigerian governor to implement the new ₦71,000 minimum wage, a move widely viewed as courageous and responsive in the face of rising economic hardship.

“Governor Yusuf has shown bold leadership at a time when workers are struggling. His policies have not only brought relief but have restored dignity to the Kano workforce,” Inuwa said.

He further praised the administration’s consistent payment of salaries and pensions, and its successful clearance of a ₦16 billion backlog of retirement benefits inherited from the previous government.

The governor was also commended for raising the minimum monthly pension from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000, a move that has significantly improved the lives of senior citizens in the state.

Beyond financial reforms, the NLC made reference to mass teacher recruitment, approval of staff promotions, and ongoing worker training initiatives as key strides in reviving the state’s civil service.

“These achievements go beyond political rhetoric—they reflect a sincere commitment to the wellbeing of workers. Governor Yusuf has earned our trust and full support,” Comrade Inuwa declared.
