Veteran journalist and publisher, Dele Momodu, has lamented that Nigeria, under the administration of President Bola Tinubu, is practising civilian dictatorship.
Speaking via a post on 𝕏 on Wednesday evening, Momodu argued that political opponents and leaders must embrace constructive criticism.
He stressed that the culture of silencing opposing voices is dangerous for democracy.
He wrote: “I stand gidigba by my opinion that what we have now is civilian dictatorship.
“Constructive criticism is not meant only for political opponents but for all leaders.
“I’m decent and civil enough to avoid the use of the type of uncouth and blistering words and public theatricals some born-again supporters of Tinubu used against him.
“I still shudder at the sheer depravity of how some people can switch overnight and think Tinubu has forgotten the level they descended, or that we all suffer from collective amnesia.
“I place Nigeria above other considerations.”
Meanwhile, Momodu has claimed that the 2027 election has already been turned into a regional war between the South and North.
Naijaonpoint reports that the veteran journalist made this known in a post via 𝕏 on Sunday, stating that nobody is more famous than President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.
Momodu maintained that popularity alone would not be enough to win the 2027 election.
According to him, the South will support a candidate from the region, adding that the North can no longer be persuaded or blackmailed into helping the South after the treatment it received following the last election.
He wrote, “Nobody is more famous than Tinubu and Atiku. Nobody, in that order. Fame alone cannot win a Presidential election in 2027.
“It is going to be a battle of the regions, the way Buhari combined with Osinbajo in 2015. Tinubu already has an advantage in the South with the incumbency factor.
“No individual today in opposition can single-handedly take on the APC behemoth. It would amount to a delusion of grandeur. It has already been turned into a regional war between the North and the South.
“The South will support a Southern candidate, and the North can no longer be persuaded or blackmailed into supporting the South after the treatment meted out to them after the last election. It has become everyone for himself and God for us all.”
