Nigeria’s Super Falcons are set to face Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses in the final at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Soccernet.ng reports.
To see the finish of the ‘Mission X’ campaign, the Nigerian women’s national team are looking to seal a record-extending 10th title.
After a dramatic semifinal victory over defending champions South Africa, following a well-taken penalty from Rasheedat Ajibade, sealed by Michelle Alozie’s eye-widening cross-cum-floater goal, the nine-time champions will now face the Atlas Lionesses in Rabat.

The grand finale will be staged at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium—popularly known as the Olympic Stadium—in Rabat, Morocco.

Kickoff is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. (local time) on Saturday, July 26, under the lights of a packed stadium expected to roar in support of the host nation.
What Madugu Said Ahead of Morocco Clash
Super Falcons assistant coach Justin Madugu has assured fans that Nigeria will not be intimidated by the occasion or the opposition. Instead, they are fully focused on finishing what they started.
“We thank God for making it to the final. I want to assure you that we are not going to relent or take our eyes off the ball. Our focus is on lifting the trophy in Rabat on Saturday,” Madugu told NFF Communications.
The tactician also praised the players for executing their game plan effectively in the semifinal against holders South Africa and promised a similarly tactical approach against Morocco.
“We knew South Africa, as Cup holders, would be difficult but we were ready for them. I am glad that our tactics paid off. As I said before the tournament, we will always assess the opposition first and then determine what tactics would suit us better and serve our purpose. We have done this in our previous five games, and we will do the same in the final.”
Nigeria’s History With Host Nations
Saturday’s WAFCON final will mark the second time in just 17 months that a Nigerian national team will be locking horns with a tournament host in a continental final.
Earlier this year, the Super Eagles faced off against host nation Côte d’Ivoire in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Abidjan. In that campaign, too, Nigeria had to navigate past South Africa in the semifinal.
Now, the Super Falcons will be hoping to flip the script and bring the trophy home from Rabat—by taming the roaring Atlas Lionesses, who will enjoy massive home support.
