The Nigerian Army has taken action against those allegedly responsible for the brutal killing of 17 soldiers in Delta State.

Following the killing of 17 soldiers during a peacekeeping mission in Okuama Community on March 14, the Army has declared eight individuals wanted in connection with the heinous crime.

The soldiers, including a commanding officer, two majors, one captain, and 13 enlisted personnel, were deployed to restore order between the feuding Okuama and Okoloba communities in Delta.

However, they fell victim to a vicious attack, with reports indicating that many of the fallen soldiers were subjected to gruesome acts such as beheading and dismemberment.

The Nigerian Army had last week published profiles of the slain soldiers, honoring their service and sacrifice for their country.

A new circular shared on the official Facebook page of the Nigerian Army on March 28 revealed the identities of eight individuals wanted for their alleged roles in the killings.

Among those declared wanted are Ekpekpo Arthur, Andaowei Dennis Bakriri, Akevwru Daniel Omotegbo (also known as Amagben), and Akata Malawa David.

The list also includes Sinclear Oliki, Clement Ikolo Ogenerukeywe, Reuben Baru, and Igoli Ebi, the only woman among the suspects.

Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, called upon Nigerians, particularly residents of Delta and neighboring states, to provide credible information that could lead to the arrest of the wanted individuals.

He emphasized the military’s determination to apprehend the perpetrators and reiterated their commitment to rescuing all abducted victims across the country.

The release of the wanted list coincided with a solemn ceremony where the 17 slain soldiers were laid to rest.

The event, attended by President Bola Tinubu, governors, federal lawmakers, and other dignitaries, served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who serve in defense of their nation.
