A top lieutenant of notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, known as Kachalla Kallamu, has been killed by troops of the Nigerian Army.
According to information made available to newsmen, Kallamu was killed by troops of the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army in a coordinated operation in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The killing of the bandit leader was confirmed to newsmen by a senior military source on Tuesday, who disclosed that Kallamu was killed alongside one of Turji’s principal logistics suppliers during a dawn offensive near Kurawa village on Monday.
The operation, the source added, was carried out with critical support from local vigilante groups and has caused great disruption to the activities in the camp of Turji.
“Kallamu had been on our radar for months. His elimination marks a significant step in weakening the bandit structure in Sabon Birni and surrounding communities,” the source said in a report by Vanguard.
Kallamu, a native of Garin-Idi in Sabon Birni, had long terrorised residents in the area and is believed to have been responsible for several kidnapping activities and the collection of ransom in the region, Naijaonpoint understands.
He was believed to have fled to Kogi State after escaping a military onslaught in June 2025, but reportedly sneaked back into Sokoto recently, where he was eventually neutralised by the troops.
