‘Nigerian Army Will Deal Decisively With Lakurawa Bandits’ – Major General Shaibu

Waidi Shaibu

The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Waidi Shaibu, has pledged to deal decisively with the newly emerged terrorist group, Lakurawa, which has been terrorising parts of northern Nigeria.

Naijaonpoint reports that Shaibu, who was recently appointed by President Bola Tinubu, gave the assurance during his screening before the Senate on Wednesday.

“The Army will deal decisively with the new bandit group known as Lakurawa. It requires a whole-of-society approach. While security is not cheap, we will ensure effective management of available resources,” he told lawmakers.

The new Army chief recounted his military experience, noting his role as a commanding officer in Borno State, where he was actively involved in counterinsurgency operations.

“We defeated Boko Haram insurgents in 2015 and a significant number of terrorists surrendered during my tenure,” he said.

He explained that his leadership relied heavily on technology to enhance operations. “For the past five years, I have been deeply involved in missions that led to the decimation of many terrorist elements,” he added.

Shaibu also assured senators that the Nigerian Army under his watch would prioritise career development and improve the welfare of personnel.

“The long-term plan is to enhance career development for our troops and ensure that their welfare remains a top priority,” he stressed.

Following his remarks, senators asked Shaibu to take a bow and leave temporarily as part of the screening procedure.
