A renowned businessman and philanthropist, Mr Aminu Alhassan Dantata, has died at the age of 94.
The relative of another business mogul, Mr Aliko Dangote, was born in 1931 in Kano to a foremost business tycoon, Mr Aminu Dantata.
Confirming his death on Saturday, one of his aides, Mr Mustapha Abdullahi Junaid, said, “Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun. Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun. It is with heavy heart that I announce the passing of our beloved father Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata. May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus and forgive his shortcomings. The Janazah details will be shared later insha Allah.”
The deceased started his business career in 1949 as a produce buyer in the family business of Alhassan Dantata and Sons Limited.
After the death of his father in 1955, he became the deputy managing director of the business three years later and in 1960, he assumed the leadership role following the demise of his elder brother, Ahmadu, who was earlier the managing director.
He invested in several businesses, including Northern Nigeria Flour Mills, SCOA Nigeria, Mentholatum, Kano State Oil Mills, Raleigh Industries, Nigerian Pipes, and others.
