The 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs will take place in November, and the Super Eagles will be hoping to emerge on top…

Super Eagles goalkeeper Adebayo Adeleye conceded five goals while on duty for Volos in their 5-0 spanking at Olympiakos, Soccernet.ng reports.

Adeleye joined Greek Super League club Volos from Paralimi in the summer transfer window, but he has had to play second fiddle to Marios Siampanis.

The Super Eagles goalie made just his third appearance this season, when his Volos side traveled to the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium to take on Olympiakos in the Greek Cup.

The odds were stacked up against Volos, as they are a miniature club when compared to Olympiakos, who are the most successful club in Greece.

The game went just as expected, as the Thrylos made light work of their visitors. By halftime, Adeleye had already conceded four goals, after braces from Giulian Biancone and Roman Yaremchuk.

It could have actually been worse for Adeleye and his Volos side, but they conceded only once in the second half, via a penalty from Yusuf Yazici.

It eventually ended 5-0 after 90 minutes, and that result knocked out Volos from the Greek Cup.

Will Adebayo Adeleye Make The Super Eagles’ Playoffs Squad?

Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle is expected to announced his squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs in the coming days.

However, it is unlikely that Adebayo Adeleye will be part of the team, now that Maduka Okoye has returned to action.

Stanley Nwabali is the first choice goalie, while Okoye is the deputy. Amas Obasogie is normally used to make up the numbers, so he will likely be invited.

The only way Adeleye will get called up is if one of the other goalkeepers suffered an injury or pulls out.

Nigeria will face Gabon in the semifinal of the continental World Cup playoffs next month. If they win, they will face the winner of the tie between DR Congo and Cameroon a few days later.

The winner of the continental playoffs will go on to play the Intercontinental playoffs next year.
