Nigerian Soldiers Reject ₦13.7 Million Bribe From Terrorists In Plateau, Arrest Suspects

The Defence Headquarters on Thursday said operatives of Operation Safe Haven in Plateau State rejected a bribe of ₦13.7 million offered by two suspected terrorists during a recent operation along the Jos–Sanga Road.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Markus Kangye, disclosed this during a press briefing in Abuja, where he provided updates on ongoing military operations across the country.

According to Kangye, the suspects attempted to buy their freedom after being intercepted by troops responding to a distress call about terrorist activity in the area.

“On July 9, our gallant troops intercepted a vehicle with bullet holes along Jos–Sanga Road. The suspects attempted to induce the troops with monetary gratification, which they declined,” Kangye revealed.

The troops reportedly rejected the bribe and proceeded to arrest two suspects and recover a cache of weapons, ammunition, a vehicle, and ₦13.7 million in cash.

Naijaonpoint understands that the recovered items are now in military custody, and investigations are ongoing.

Kangye also reported that the troops had conducted several offensive operations and responded to distress calls across Bassa, Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Jos East, and South Wase in Plateau State, as well as Kaura and Sanga in Kaduna State.

The operations, according to him, led to the neutralisation of several extremists, the arrest of 12 suspects, and the rescue of three kidnapped victims. Troops also recovered assorted weapons, motorcycles, and vehicles.

He added that during routine patrols in Barkin Ladi and Jos South LGAs in Plateau, and in Wamba (Nasarawa State) and Sanga (Kaduna State), troops arrested seven suspected militias and criminals.

“Items recovered from them included weapons, ammunition, motorcycles, and illicit drugs,” Kangye said.

Commending the troops for their courage and integrity, Kangye urged continued public support to help security agencies dismantle criminal networks threatening national peace.

“The support of all Nigerians, including the media, is crucial to the overall success of our mission. We will continue to provide timely updates and ensure transparency throughout the operation,” he stated.

He reiterated that the military remains committed to ensuring peace and stability across the country, warning that those attempting to compromise troops or obstruct justice would face the full weight of the law.
