The management of Wesley University, Ondo, Ondo State, has announced a 50 per cent reduction in tuition fees for several programmes ahead of the 2025/2026 academic session.
The reduction, however, does not apply to programmes such as medicine and surgery, nursing, law, and selected medical and allied health courses.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Obeka, made the announcement during the institution’s 14th convocation ceremony held on Saturday.
Obeka explained that the downward fee review was introduced to cushion the economic hardship being faced by students and their sponsors.
According to him: “In response to prevailing economic challenges and in line with Wesley University’s commitment to affordable, accessible and inclusive education, management has approved a moderate downward review of general school fees for the 2025/2026 academic session.”
While many students will benefit from the reduction, the Vice-Chancellor noted that fees for certain programmes had to be reviewed upward to sustain academic standards.
He stated: “A slight upward adjustment has been applied exclusively to programmes in medicine and surgery, nursing, law, and select medical and allied health disciplines. These adjustments are essential to maintain specialised facilities, faculty expertise, laboratory equipment, clinical training, and regulatory benchmarks required for these professional programmes.”
Obeka said the review was designed to balance compassion with quality assurance.
“This balanced fee review reflects the university’s dual mandate of compassion and quality assurance, prioritising affordability without compromising academic excellence and global competitiveness,” he added.
