The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), has forecast hazy and sunny weather conditions across different parts of the country from Wednesday through Friday, with isolated thunderstorms expected in some southern states.
This was contained in NiMet’s weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja.
According to the agency, the northern region will experience sunny and hazy skies throughout the three-day forecast period.
“Dust particles are in suspension over the North Central region; the public should take necessary precautions,” NiMet cautioned.
It urged residents, especially those with respiratory conditions, to limit outdoor exposure and use protective gear where necessary.
For the southern region, NiMet projected sunny skies with patches of clouds and isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rain, particularly over Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states later in the day.
On Thursday, similar weather patterns are expected. “Chances of thunderstorms with light rains are expected over parts of Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states during the morning hours,” the agency said.
Later in the day, thunderstorms may also affect parts of Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa.
NiMet forecast that by Friday, the North would witness hazy skies in the morning, with dust haze likely to dominate the afternoon and evening hours. The central region will also remain under hazy and sunny skies.
The southern region is expected to have cloudy conditions with sunny intervals in the morning and isolated thunderstorms over Anambra, Imo, Abia, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River later in the day.
NiMet advised individuals with asthma and other respiratory issues to be cautious during the hazy period. It also urged motorists to drive carefully during rainfall.
“Driving under rain should be with caution,” the agency warned, adding, “Airline operators are advised to get airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.”
