NIPOST surpasses ₦10b revenue mark, eyes bigger role in Nigeria’s digital future — Postmaster general

Speaking during an interview, Odeyemi revealed that the agency outperformed its ₦10 billion revenue target last year, thanks to key reforms, digitized operations, and efforts to curb inefficiencies.

“We exceeded ten billion naira just by digitizing some of our operations and closing leakages,” she said, during a conversation themed “Beyond Stamps: The Reinvention of Nigeria’s Postal Power.”

She added that the ₦10 billion milestone is just the beginning, emphasizing that with its full service potential, NIPOST can generate even greater revenue while delivering improved services locally and internationally.

Odeyemi outlined a number of strategies fueling the agency’s growth — including closer integration with Nigeria’s booming e-commerce sector, the expansion of digital products like PostMoni, and the implementation of the National Addressing System to support financial inclusion and national security.

She emphasized that adopting this addressing system, especially by security agencies like the Nigeria Police Force, could significantly improve crime prevention, emergency response, and urban planning.

“When every individual or business is tied to a verified address, policing, planning, and services like census become much easier,” she explained.

Beyond crime reduction, she noted that accurate addressing would also support drone deliveries and enable efficient delivery of government services directly to citizens’ homes.

On the issue of financial independence, Odeyemi affirmed that NIPOST is on track to becoming fully self-sustaining within five years by diversifying income sources and enhancing service reliability.

Acknowledging past challenges such as parcel theft and mismanagement, she assured the public that NIPOST has strengthened its logistics systems and implemented tougher security measures.

As part of its ongoing transformation, ...master General said efforts are underway to rebuild public trust and reposition NIPOST as a modern institution that plays a vital role in Nigeria’s digital economy.

“In five to ten years, I want to see NIPOST as a source of national pride — one that is fully digitized, reliable, and accessible to both urban and rural communities,” she said. “We’re building a platform for inclusive economic growth and national trust.”
