The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive digital development following the completion of a two-day digital literacy training for persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Abuja.
The programme, organised under NITDA’s Digital Literacy for All (DL4ALL) initiative, trained 50 participants in practical digital skills aimed at improving their participation in Nigeria’s growing digital economy.
Speaking at the event, NITDA’s Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa CCIE, said the initiative underscores the agency’s resolve to make accessibility a central pillar of national digital transformation.
He noted that true digital advancement cannot be achieved without the inclusion of persons with disabilities, stressing that barriers often stem from inaccessible platforms rather than the absence of digital tools.
Inuwa explained that the programme aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises inclusivity, adding that persons with disabilities should be recognised as contributors to economic growth.
He highlighted that when equipped with relevant skills and technologies, persons with disabilities can thrive as innovators, entrepreneurs and professionals across various sectors.
The Director-General also acknowledged the contributions of Inclusive Friends Association (IFA) and SIMBED, describing their collaboration with NITDA as a model for advancing inclusive development through government–civil society partnerships.
Other stakeholders, including SIMBED and IFA, commended NITDA’s leadership on digital inclusion, urging participants to apply the skills acquired and advocate for inclusive digital access within their communities.
