The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has called for a safer future while marking the cyber security awareness month.

Emphasizing the theme of the event, ‘Cyber Hygiene for a Safer Tomorrow’, the Agency urged individuals to be security conscious on the online space, especially with the advent of digital devices, which enabled the interconnectivity of people.

NITDA also noted the relativity of the advance connection with bigger risks, which includes hackers, scams, and cyber threats. Therefore, it urged Nigerians to behave responsibly, while protecting themselves and their communities by adopting simple but effective cyber hygiene practices.

The agency highlighted some cyber hygiene practices that people should adopt, which includes, using strong and unique passwords for all online accounts, enabling two-factor authentication, regularly updating devices and applications, frequently backing up important data, avoiding suspicious links or attachments from unknown sources and careful consideration before sharing personal or financial information online.

NITDA reiterated that the theme for this year reflects that cyber hygiene is not only an individual responsibility but a collective effort.

The agency added that when individuals protect themselves, they also safeguard their families, workplaces, and the broader digital community.

On the final note, NITDA called on all citizens to stay alert, click wisely, and stay safe online.
