Aloy Ejimakor, legal consultant to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has said many Igbos are deeply dissatisfied with the conviction and life sentence handed to the Biafra agitator.
Naijaonpoint reports that Ejimakor warned that the discontent could have political implications if the sentence is not urgently addressed, saying the feeling among people of the South-East may be expressed during the 2027 general elections.
In a post on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter), Ejimakor wrote that his recent travels across the South-East revealed widespread anger over Kanu’s conviction.
“I travelled around entire Southeast during this Xmas/New Year period & noticed that Ndigbo are very unhappy about the conviction of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu & that if it’s not rectified urgently, they will surely make their feelings known in the 2027 elections. Even Google confirms it,” he wrote.
In 2025, the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja sentenced Kanu to life imprisonment after finding him guilty of terrorism-related charges.
Justice James Omotosho, who delivered the judgment, said the court opted for life imprisonment despite noting that a stiffer penalty was provided for under the law.
Kanu has been facing prosecution for nearly a decade over charges ranging from treason to terrorism, linked to his agitation for the actualisation of Biafra.
