Nationwide PENGASSAN Strike Shuts Down NNPC, NUPRC, NMDPRA Operations Nationwide

Naijaonpoint Media reports that the nationwide strike declared by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has paralysed operations across key oil and gas institutions, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), and other gas supply agencies under the sector.

At the NUPRC headquarters in Abuja, the main gate was firmly locked on Monday, leaving several employees stranded outside. Security operatives confirmed that staff were denied entry in line with the strike directive.

Activities at the NMDPRA were also brought to a halt as workers fully complied with the industrial action. PENGASSAN Chairman in the agency, Tony Iziogba, confirmed “100 per cent compliance,” noting that members had also shut down operations at the NNPCL and gas distribution units.

The union explained that the strike became necessary following the alleged wrongful dismissal of about 800 workers at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery. It directed members to suspend crude oil and natural gas supplies to the refinery, a move that has sent shockwaves through the energy sector.

Oil marketers have since warned of looming disruptions in fuel and gas distribution nationwide if the industrial dispute is not resolved promptly.
