The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has reduced the pump price of petrol for the third time in December 2025, with filling stations in Abuja now selling at ₦835 per litre, down from ₦915 per litre.
Naijaonpoint understands this marks an ₦80 adjustment by the state‑owned oil firm.
The development follows earlier price reviews by independent marketers, with MRS, BOVAS, and AA Rano adjusting their petrol pump prices to between ₦739 and ₦865 per litre in the nation’s capital.
NNPCL and other filling stations’ price cuts come after Dangote Refinery and depot owners slashed their ex‑depot prices to between ₦699 and ₦800 per litre.
This followed a declaration by the President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, that a ₦739 per litre petrol price would be strictly enforced beginning Tuesday, starting with MRS Oil and Gas filling stations.
During a press briefing at the Lekki‑based Dangote Petroleum Refinery, Dangote assured Nigerians that the company would ensure consumers “feel the impact of the recent reduction in petrol prices.”
“Starting from Tuesday, MRS will start selling petrol at ₦739/litre. Definitely, we will enforce that low price. We will make sure that it’s implemented. If you have your truck, you can come here and buy it. We are selling at ₦699. The ₦699 includes the percentage of NMDPRA. So what actually comes out to us is about ₦389 or so,” he said.
