The Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, on Thursday raised the alarm, alleging that his life and those of the company’s management staff are under serious threat.
Ojulari attributed the threats to the reforms he has introduced in the oil and gas sector, in line with the mandate given to him by President Bola Tinubu to revive the moribund refineries. He lamented that some powerful elements are plotting to remove him from his position.
The NNPCL GCEO made the disclosure while receiving a delegation of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), led by its President, Comrade Festus Osifo, at the company’s headquarters in Abuja.
He also stated that efforts are ongoing to restore the moribund refineries to full operational capacity, adding that management is considering the NLNG module as part of the revival plan.
Responding to comments made by the PENGASSAN President on the stability of NNPCL and the broader oil sector, Ojulari emphasized that despite the threats to his life and those of some management staff, he remains determined to ensure the refineries operate effectively.
He said: “I’m not hiding from anybody. I’m not a politician. I will have to learn a bit more about politics, but it’s a development plan for me, and I’m ready to learn.”
