NNPP Affirms Kwankwaso’s Expulsion; Lifts Kano Gov’s Suspension, Appoints Him National Chairman

Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and Gov Abba Kabir Yusuf

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has lifted the indefinite suspension placed on Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in 2025, following the conclusion of an internal investigation into allegations of misconduct.

Naijaonpoint gathered that the party announced the decision in a statement on Tuesday.

In a statement signed by the NNPP National Chairman, Dr. Agbo Gilbert Major, the party said the move followed a careful review of a report submitted by a committee constituted to probe the allegations, which were said to be linked to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his supporters within the party.

According to the statement, the decision was taken by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the NNPP, in consultation with the party’s Founder and Board of Trustees, during an emergency meeting held at the NNPP National Headquarters in Abuja.

The NNPP said all rights and privileges previously withdrawn from Governor Yusuf have now been fully restored.

In a major development, the party also appointed the Kano governor as its National Leader, describing the position as the highest elected office held by any party member on the NNPP platform.

The NWC urged Yusuf to use his new leadership role to strengthen the party’s internal cohesion and consolidate its achievements ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party further commended the governor for what it described as his courage in standing up to “imaginary powers,” while reaffirming its earlier position on the expulsion of Senator Kwankwaso and members of the Kwankwassiya group from the NNPP.
