NNPP Becoming Irrelevant In Kano – Deputy Senate President

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has described the wave of defections from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a clear indication of the political direction for 2027 in Kano State.

Speaking over the weekend, Senator Jibrin welcomed a group of NNPP members from the ward of the party’s former presidential candidate and national leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as well as the state’s governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The defections were led by Yahaya Sa’idu Kwankwaso, a former councillor from Kwankwaso Ward in Madobi Local Government, and Hon. Abdulhamid Ahmad Diso, a former deputy speaker of Gwale LGA, alongside Hon. Shu’aibu Isa Kubaraci and their supporters.

Additionally, a prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) figure, Hon. Garba Alhassan Dawaki, spearheaded the defection of former councillors and PDP members from Dawakin Kudu LGA to the APC.

According to Senator Barau’s media adviser, Ismail Mudashir, the defectors cited the Senator’s developmental achievements in Kano State as their primary motivation for joining the APC.

While receiving the new members, Senator Barau assured them of fair treatment and equal opportunities within the party, emphasizing that the APC is an inclusive platform where everyone has a chance to thrive.

“The mass defections of NNPP members to the APC signal what lies ahead for 2027,” he said.

“As it stands, the NNPP is no longer relevant in Kano North. In Kano South, the APC will soon take over the remnants of the NNPP, which is now limited to a few streets in Kano Central.”

Senator Barau also pledged to work with the new members to accelerate the development of Kano State and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda to foster progress and prosperity nationwide.
