No automatic tickets for PDP defectors in Delta – Prominent APC chieftain declares

A prominent leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Chief Ayirimi Emami, has dismissed claims that former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who defected to the APC will be given automatic tickets ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Saturday in Warri during a meeting with APC leaders and supporters, Emami stated: “It’s a lie to think because you joined APC, your position will not be contested.

“There was no political agreement to that effect. All legislative positions in Warri Federal Constituency and the Delta South Senatorial Seat will be contested in the 2027 elections.”

He stated that while APC members in Warri Federal Constituency will collaborate with the new entrants, no one should expect special privileges.

His words: “If other local government councils say they don’t have candidates in the 2027 elections, in Warri South, Warri South-West, and Warri North, we have people who are ready to contest for the Delta South Senatorial seat.”

Emami, while reaffirming his respect for the leadership of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, also acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s role in strengthening the APC and attracting defectors from the PDP.

He said: “The defection of PDP members in Delta State to the APC would not have been possible if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had not made the APC a formidable platform through his performance.”

He called for unity within the party and urged new members not to oppress existing ones.

Also speaking at the event, APC Delta South Senatorial Chairman, Mr. Austin Oribioye, alongside notable chieftains such as Prince Yemi Emiko and Sir Amorighoye Sunny Mene, praised Emami for his consistent leadership.

In a show of solidarity, former Delta State House of Assembly member, Hon. Daniel Mayuku, moved a motion, seconded by Hon. Mofe Matthew Edema, to adopt Tinubu as the sole APC presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.

The motion was unanimously endorsed through a voice vote presided over by Chief Emami.
