Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has said he will pursue the resolution of the Osun local government question to a logical conclusion through legal means.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed on Monday, Governor Adeleke hailed the Appeal Court ruling as finally reaffirming the truth about the legality of the validly elected and sworn in PDP chairmen and councillors.
DAILY POST recalled that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, controlled Osun State government and the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, had disagreed over two judgments by the Appeal Court, Akure Division, on February 10 and June 13, 2025.
While the Osun APC insisted that the February 10 judgment reinstated local government chairmen elected on the platform of the party, who were sacked by a Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo after the October 22, 2022 local government election in the state, the PDP maintained that the judgment never reinstated the sacked APC officials.
Based on the strength of the Appeal Court ruling, the state governor conducted another local government election in February 22, 2025 where PDP candidates won all positions.
In the statement released by his spokesman on Monday, the governor commended the patience and commitment to due process by Osun people, noting that the latest judgement has put paid to any lie about reinstatement of previously sacked chairmen and affirmed the legitimacy of the PDP chairmen and councillors.
He said, “Unlike the opposition, we are people of due process. The latest judgement is being served on all relevant stakeholders at state and national level. Our expectation is a quick restoration of normalcy in line with the law.
“I appreciate the deep love for peace and unity as demonstrated by the PDP Chairmen and councillors of the 30 local government and area councils since their swearing in. Your patience and support for the law has paid off.”
The governor further thanked security agencies for their commitment to law as well as peace and tranquility of Osun State even as he urged citizens and residents to continue to peacefully conduct themselves.
“Evil plots against our dear state on all fronts have been foiled. We must continue to remain peaceful and never allow agents of violence and enemies of the people to drag the state into violence and backwardness,” Adeleke was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, the Osun APC in a statement signed by Adegoke Ogunsola, its Legal Adviser, warned the Osun PDP to stop inciting the public as the appellate court judgment of June 13 did not validate the judgment of February 10.
Osun APC so maintained that it is only the Supreme Court that can pronounce on the judgment.
While calling on Governor Adeleke to curtail his alleged desperation, Osun APC stated that the PDP has resorted to all manner of desperate antics to cause confusion in the interpretation of the two Appeal Court judgments.
Adegoke in the statement said “The latest acts of mischief unleashed by the Governor and his party men were caused by the latest decision of the Court of Appeal of 13th June, 2025 refusing to relist the appeal of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) and the All Progressives Congress (APC). The major reason for the refusal to relist the appeal is that the same Court of Appeal had decided the same issues raised by the Appeal in Appeal No. CA/AK/270/2022 in its judgment of 10th February, 2025 which reinstated the Chairmen and Councilors elected under the platform of APC during the October 15th 2022 local government elections.
“It must be recalled that by the decision of the Court of Appeal delivered on 10th February, 2025, the Court expressly allowed the appeal of APC against the judgment of the Federal High Court which nullified the election of the Chairmen and Councilors elected on the platform of APC. The Court of Appeal found the appeal lodged by APC to be meritorious and expressly allowed same and awarded costs in favour of the APC and against the PDP.
“By the above and contrary to the misinterpretation that the government of Mr. Jackson Ademola Adeleke has been trying to foist on Nigerians in general and the security agencies in particular, it is imperative to set out the prayers contained in the Amended Notice of Appeal and Brief of Argument of the APC which were found to be meritorious and allowed by the Court of Appeal thusly.”
While accusing Adeleke and the Osun PDP of mischievously misleading the public, Osun APC urged the Attorney General of Federation and Minister of Justice, the Inspector General of Police and heads of other security agencies in the country to call him to order and to refuse to be used to hijack legitimate local government administrations from the democratically elected Chairmen and Councilors in the state.
“Any attempt by the government of Governor Adeleke and its PDP desperadoes to unleash mayhem as they did on 17th February, 2025 which led to the unfortunate assassination of Honourable Remi Abass and six other leaders and members of APC, shall be vehemently resisted legally and may lead to breakdown of law and order,” the party warned.
