The Imo State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed claims it has thrown its weight behind former presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The party, in a statement issued to newsmen in Owerri, Imo State capital, by its Publicity Secretary, Kingsley Onochie, stated that it would only support the presidential aspirant who wins the party’s primary.

He further stated that it was wrong for some media houses to report that Imo ADC was supporting Obi. He insisted that it was improper for the media to suggest the party was backing a particular presidential aspirant.

According to Onochie, “Once a candidate emerges at the primaries, he would enjoy our support.”

He assured Nigerians that the leadership of the party was working to ensure a rancour-free presidential primaries.

He said the Imo ADC, under James Okoroma, is gathering momentum as members of the Labour Party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and All Progressives Congress (APC) have been joining ADC in droves.

Onochie assured the people of Imo State that ADC would usher in a new lease of life for them in the state.

Meanwhile, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has stated that the opposition coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will take over power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

Atiku vowed that the ADC would never allow Nigeria to become a one-party state.

He boasted that other political parties were jittery within three weeks after the coalition adopted the ADC.

The former Vice President spoke during the unveiling and inauguration of the Ekiti State ADC Executive Council in Ado Ekiti over the weekend, where he was represented by Prof Bayode Fakunle.

Noting that ADC is for all Nigerians, the former presidential candidate said the party will change the political landscape of Nigeria.

He said, “ADC was launched just about three weeks ago, and within two weeks, it has become the most dominant party in the country, and all other parties are already jittery.

“ADC is for all Nigerians, it is a party that will change the political landscape of this country, and everyone is welcomed with open hands and by the grace of God, this party will take over the leadership of this country come 2027.”

ADC, which was inaugurated a few weeks ago, has several notable political figures as members.

The party has vowed to ensure that it unseats Tinubu in 2027.

Currently, there are indications that Atiku may contest for the party’s presidential ticket in 2027
