No faction in Imo PDP, we’ll displace APC – Obiaku declares

The factional State publicity secretary of the People Democratic Party, PDP, Imo State chapter, Lancelot Obiaku has declared that there is no division or any parallel leadership structure of the party in the State.

He maintained that Austine Nwachukwu remained the only party Chairman of PDP in the State and ready to offer an alternative Government come 2027.

Obiaku made the assertion while addressing journalists at the party’s secretariat in Owerri.

He called on members of the party, mostly Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere-led faction, to shun actions capable of weakening the party in operating as a credible opposition to the APC-led administration in the State.

The PDP spokesperson pointed out that Nwachukwu’s leadership did not emerge from the moon but a product of transparent and reliable process in line with the party’s constitution.

“As you all know, on July 27, 2024, in accordance with the timetable approved by the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party, the Imo State Chapter of the PDP held its ward congress.

“This was followed by the LGA congress on August 10, 2024, and subsequently the State Congress on August 31, 2024, which produced the State Working Committee, SWC, and the State Executive Committee,SEC,” he said.

Obiaku maintained that none of the elections was done in secret, but an open exercise monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the media and security agencies.

“We wish to vehemently emphasize that there were no parallel congresses at any level, and to date, these congresses remain unchallenged in any Court of competent jurisdiction.

“Within the internal organs of the party, the congresses are also not subject to any form of scrutiny or dispute, having followed the laid-down rules and procedures enshrined in the party’s constitution for electing officers,” he added.

The Publicity secretary, however, hinted that the emergence of another leadership on April 28, 2025 came as a surprise because of the manner it was done.

He pointed out that there is no way an individual can stay in his house and convey a meeting with his friends and announce that an interim leadership had emerged.

He regretted the action, describing it as an ugly development and a ploy to distract the party from checking the activities of the ruling party in the State.

Obiaku still maintained that the party is under one umbrella led by Nwachukwu as its chairman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu as its leader.

“Under the present leadership of Imo PDP which assumed office in September 2024, the party has taken deliberate steps targeted at reforms that have reassured members of the party and the public that the party belongs to them and still stands as a platform where dreams and genuine aspirations are kept alive and not suppressed by impunity and imposition.

“As a responsible party, we will continue to keep the present administration on its toes. This is beyond politics.

“We owe ourselves the duty to fight for the common good of the vast majority of Imo people who are yearning for good governance, which the present Hope Uzodinma administration has failed to offer,” he further said.

Obiaku alleged that in the last 16 months that the State had received N162 billion LGA allocations without the money reflecting in the local council areas that are struggling with bad roads and dilapidated structures.

He further asserted that Uzodinma’s administration is presently at crossroads, running without a Chief Judge and Attorney General, as well as battling with quasi civil servants salary structures.
