A Federal High Court in Kano sentenced Nasiru Isa, 33, to seven years in prison on Monday for sexually exploiting an 11-year-old girl. Isa pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of sexual exploitation.
Presiding judge, Justice S.M. Shu’aibu, found Isa guilty and handed down the sentence without the option of a fine. Additionally, the court ordered Isa to pay a fine of N1 million as compensation to the victim.
According to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Isa committed the crime multiple times in October. On one occasion, he allegedly lured his neighbor’s daughter into his wife’s room and sexually exploited her. He also reportedly lured the girl to an uncompleted building and sexually abused her within the same month.
During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence, including Isa’s confessional statement and the victim’s testimony, to prove their case. The court established that Isa’s actions violated the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act of 2015.
Justice Shu’aibu found Isa guilty as charged and sentenced him to seven years imprisonment without the option of a fine. The judgment sends a strong message that sexual exploitation of minors will not be tolerated and perpetrators will face severe consequences under the law.
