An Air Peace aircraft operating Flight P47190 from Lagos to Port Harcourt experienced a minor runway excursion upon landing at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
In a statement issued by the airline’s spokesperson, Osifo-Whiskey Efe, Air Peace confirmed that all passengers disembarked safely and that no injuries or structural damage were recorded.
“Air Peace confirms that its Flight P47190, operating from Lagos to Port Harcourt this morning, had a runway excursion after landing safely at the Port Harcourt International Airport,” the statement said. “The aircraft veered slightly off the runway without any damage. All passengers disembarked safely and calmly, and no injuries were reported.”
The crew promptly activated safety protocols, and the situation was effectively managed, the airline added.
Although the specific cause of the incident is yet to be determined, industry regulators are expected to carry out the standard post-incident investigations.
Sunday’s runway excursion adds to a recent pattern of minor aviation incidents in Nigeria, raising questions about operational oversight and safety protocols.
In June 2025, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) grounded a Rano Air aircraft after an engine failure and fire scare mid-flight. Fortunately, the aircraft landed safely.
On January 28, 2025, a Max Air Boeing 737 suffered a nose wheel collapse and tyre burst while landing at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, with no casualties.
On July 21, 2024, another Max Air flight experienced multiple tyre bursts during takeoff at Yola Airport, rendering the aircraft immobile after aborting the flight to Abuja.
Earlier, on April 23, 2024, a Dana Air MD82 from Abuja to Lagos skidded off the runway after landing at Murtala Muhammed Airport. That flight also ended without injury.
While the incidents have not resulted in loss of life, aviation observers have called for enhanced enforcement of maintenance and safety standards across all Nigerian carriers.
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority is yet to issue an official statement regarding the latest Air Peace incident.
