Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, on Tuesday received the 25 schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, confirming that all the children were rescued in good health.
Addressing reporters, the governor dismissed circulating reports that ransom had been paid to secure their freedom.
“No Kobo was paid. The military, DSS and other security forces combed the forest and rescued them unhurt,” he said.
Idris attributed the successful operation to the directive issued by President Bola Tinubu, noting that security agencies responded swiftly and decisively.
He expressed gratitude to the military, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the police for what he described as a coordinated and effective rescue mission.
The governor also thanked religious leaders who “prayed ceaselessly” for the safe return of the students, describing their spiritual support as invaluable during the tense period.
He further acknowledged the solidarity shown by eminent Nigerians.
According to him, the visit of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, alongside APC governors and the Inspector General of Police, brought morale to the state.
Idris saluted the parents of the rescued girls, praising them for their patience and confidence in the government throughout the ordeal.
