The Labour Party (LP) faction led by its National Chairman, Julius Abure, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to deploy the broom symbol of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to decisively sweep corruption out of Nigeria.
Naijaonpoint reports that Abure made the call in his Christmas message to Nigerians, contained in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the faction, Obiora Ifoh, on Wednesday.
According to him, no government can succeed or endure if corruption is allowed to thrive.
“No government can survive or succeed unless corruption is tackled frontally and brought to a standstill,” Abure said.
The Labour Party chieftain anchored his call on biblical teachings, noting that Jesus Christ exemplified transparent and corruption-free leadership during His earthly ministry.
He recalled a scriptural account where Christ openly exposed corruption among His disciples, stressing that leadership must be rooted in integrity and accountability.
“The life and teachings of Jesus Christ clearly show that corruption has no place in leadership. He exposed even His own disciple who was found wanting,” he added.
Abure also appealed to Nigerians to use the Christmas season as a period of fervent prayers for the country, especially in view of the persistent security challenges confronting many parts of the nation.
He acknowledged the efforts of security agencies working to keep the country safe during the festive season.
“Nigerians must continue to pray for the nation, particularly over the prevailing security challenges,” he said.
The Labour Party chairman commended the Nigerian military, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other paramilitary agencies for their gallantry and sacrifices in maintaining peace and order during the Yuletide.
He, however, stressed the need for improved welfare and motivation for security personnel.
“The President must ensure that our military and security agencies are adequately motivated and supported to enable them to continue delivering on their responsibilities,” Abure charged.
Abure further warned that Nigeria would continue to struggle unless its leaders embrace the values of sacrifice, patriotism, and selflessness exemplified by the country’s founding fathers.
He listed notable nationalists such as Malam Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and Malam Aminu Kano as leaders whose legacies should guide today’s political leadership.
“Nigeria will continue to struggle unless today’s leaders imbibe the spirit of sacrifice and selflessness demonstrated by our founding fathers,” he stated.
