The 50-year-old donned the green and white colours of the Nigerian National team between 1993 and 2002, scoring four goals in 55 competitive games.

Following a recent argument on social media about which generation of the Nigerian team had the better players, comparing the 1980 team to the 1994 team.

The former Juventus midfielder jumped to the defence of the 1994 squad, revealing no generation of Nigerian has yet to match what the squad achieved.

“Well, you can easily rate the teams and players by what they achieved both at the club side and the National team levels. With all due respect, no team, collectively or individually, to date has come close to what the 1994 team players achieved for club and country. Sorry,” the former Ajax midfielder wrote on his X page.

It is also worth noting that majority of the players in the 1994 squad were a part of the Nigerian squad that won a gold medal at the Atlanta 1996 Olympics in the United States.
