WATCH THE VIDEO HERE THE Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared his intention to remain with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) despite the ongoing internal turmoil within the party. Wike made this statement yesterday in Abuja during a press conference to commemorate his first year as FCT Minister. Although he is a member of the PDP, Wike was appointed as Minister by President Bola Tinubu, leading to speculation about a potential switch to the All Progressives Congress since his appointment. The internal conflict within the PDP has been exacerbated by tensions between Wike and his successor in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, as both vie for control of the party in the state. When asked at the press conference if he would consider leaving the PDP if the crisis in Rivers continues, Wike responded, “I don’t run away from a fight.” “I have made it clear that I don’t shy away from challenges. I will stay and confront the situation. Who am I supposed to be afraid of? The vampires?” he stated. “Did I not publicly declare my refusal to support the PDP’s presidential candidate? Did I do that in secret?” The conflict in Rivers State has also led to a fragmentation of the state’s house of assembly, with Wike asserting that the legislative body must be allowed to operate effectively. He described it as “impunity and madness” for just three lawmakers to form the assembly and pass the state budget. “I have been very clear that the Rivers house of assembly must function. You can’t just sit at home and claim that three people make up an assembly. You say these individuals have defected; who determines defection?” Wike said. “You have taken the matter to court multiple times, but you can wait for the court’s ruling.”
