“No small team” – Ex-Real Madrid midfielder warns Super Eagles ahead of Zimbabwe clash

Former Super Eagles and Real Madrid B midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju, has warned the Nigerian Football team against complacency ahead of their qualifier against Zimbabwe, Soccernet.ng reports.

Eric Chelle’s side rekindled their goal of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup by sealing a 2-0 win over Rwanda in Kigali on Friday, pushing them into 4th on their group table.

Nigeria are set to take on Zimbabwe by 5PM WAT at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, and Adepoju, who won the 1994 AFCON tournament, has warned the Super Eagles to be on ten toes against the Warriors.

“The game against the Warriors of Zimbabwe is one the team must try their best to win, as they have to be at the World Cup.

“Africa has no small team anymore. In every department of the team, there are capable players. They can only improve on themselves, and their capabilities will be crucial in the game against Zimbabwe and others. They should go out there and do us proud,” the former Real Sociedad midfielder said as revealed by The Guardian.

Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, also mentioned Adepoju’s point in the pre-match presser yesterday, edging the Nigerian team to gun for all three points.

“We are looking forward to a win. The three points are important to us. At this stage, we cannot afford to drop any more points.

“Our aim is to take it one match at a time, collect three points here and there and hope fervently that these will be enough to get us the ticket,” the one-time Greek Super League winner said as reported by Soccernet.ng.

A win against Zimbabwe will put the Super Eagles in the front foot for qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but a loss will be heavily detrimental to their chances.
