The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa has assured that no soldier within the Nigerian Armed Forces earns anything below N100,000.
Musa while speaking during an interview with News Central on Thursday, September 4, said the Nigerian military remains committed to ensuring that every soldier is adequately taken care of.
He also stated that while the N100,000 still seem small, especially compared with the cost of living, there is room for improvement.
Musa added that he is aware that President Bola Tinubu is doing everything possible to ensure the improved welfare of every military personnel.
His words, “Then a soldier was receiving about N49,000 monthly, now that has been doubled. No soldier is receiving less than a N100,000 now. It’s still small but at least it is better than where we were.
“And I know Mr. President is working towards increasing that and other things for us because they (the soldiers) are doing so much.
“Now you’ll never hear any soldier complaining about salaries or his allowances being denied,” Musa said.
Speaking on the welfare of soldiers on the front line of the war against banditry and insurgency, Musa said the military goes an extra mile to ensure that food is provided for them.
“We follow up, sometimes you see from the field someone will say the food is not good and we find out what is really going on.
“Sometimes again, because of where they are deployed, to even get food is a bit difficult so we had to find a way and manner to make sure that they are well fed. Averagely, it’s not bad,” he added.
