Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has reiterated the need for strategic collaboration between governments and the private sector to unlock Nigeria’s economic potential.

Speaking at the Taraba International Investment Summit (Taravest) in Jalingo on Wednesday, Atiku stressed that no Nigerian state can achieve sustainable growth independently.

He urged leaders to build strong partnerships with private investors, local businesses, and communities to bridge resource gaps and drive inclusive development.

“If Taraba aspires to realise its potential and grow its economy sustainably, it must leverage private sector resources, including finance, skills, and technology,” Atiku stated.

He made reference to agriculture, solid minerals, and tourism as key sectors that could transform Taraba’s economy if supported by a stable, secure, and investor-friendly environment.

Atiku called on the government to eliminate bottlenecks, reduce investment risks, and ensure peace and security in host communities, factors he described as “critical determinants of investment flows.”

The former Vice President also emphasized the role of efficient institutions, coherent policy frameworks, and strong infrastructure in creating a thriving investment climate.

“A well-designed investment generation plan with clear goals and consistent policies can unlock economic opportunities,” he added.

Atiku noted that public-private partnerships (PPPs) are essential, given the limited financial and physical capacity of state governments.

According to him, such partnerships can attract external investments, boost internally generated revenue, and improve public services.

He further advocated for investment in education and healthcare, stating that human capital development is central to inclusive and sustained growth.

His words: “Taraba will be able to upgrade social and economic infrastructure to support economic growth and human development,.

“With additional resources, the state can better support the poor and vulnerable by improving access to services and reducing poverty.”

Atiku also commended the Taraba State Government for organizing the summit, describing it as a step in the right direction.

“This initiative aligns with your vision to build a prosperous, united, and secure Taraba that serves as a model for growth and sustainable development,” he added.
