Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Wednesday, welcomed 17 acting local government chairmen who defected from their former parties to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

During the event, the governor expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would secure a landslide victory in the 2027 presidential election.

The defectors were received at the New Festival Hall of Government House, Benin City, where Governor Okpebholo commended President Tinubu’s leadership.

He asserted that his own administration was committed to improving the lives of Edo residents, boasting that within just four months in office, significant progress had been made.

“I welcome you, our chairmen, who have shown bravery in leaving your former parties to join the APC. This step demonstrates your commitment to the progress of our state,” Governor Okpebholo stated.

Governor Okpebholo also praised councillors across the 17 local government areas for their role in the impeachment processes that led to the election of the new chairmen.

He charged them with the responsibility of beginning the campaign for Tinubu’s re-election, urging them to erect billboards in their respective localities to reinforce the message of support.

“2027 is a reality in Edo State, and there is no vacancy in Abuja. Those forming new political parties cannot rule us. They governed their states, leaving them vulnerable to kidnappings, but since their departure, security has improved. Such people cannot be trusted to lead Nigeria,” he declared.
