The National Orientation Agency (NOA), in Kebbi, has condemned the use of hate speech and unpatriotic comments in reaction to a viral video showing patients in a flooded Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital ward in the state.
The State Director of NOA in Kebbi, Alhaji Muhammed Nasir-Karofi, condemned the incident in Birnin Kebbi on Friday while reacting to the video that had continued to generate public outrage.
He emphasised that the citizens have the right to demand accountability from leaders, noting that such engagements must be carried out with civility, respect, and patriotism.
“Governance is a continuous and evolving process. Constructive criticism helps leaders respond more effectively to citizens’ needs, but mockery, insults, and hate speech only serve to divide society and weaken our collective ability to solve problems,” Nasir-Karofi said.
He urged community leaders, religious figures, and parents to caution their members and children against the use of hate speech, especially on social media platforms.
Nasir-Karofi added that the agency would continue to sensitise the public on the values of respect, unity, and patriotism.
He also encouraged government institutions to respond promptly to citizens’ genuine concerns.
The director, however, reiterated NOA’s commitment to promoting constructive dialogue that would lead to positive change for the people of the state. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
