His invite was due to some uncertainty over Oliver Baumann’s availability for their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Luxembourg and Northern Ireland.
The 23-year-old’s call-up to the German senior team makes his chances of representing Nigeria a whole lot slimmer.
Recall that Atubolu was born to Nigerian parents in Germany, but he has played for the latter through the youth teams until now.
Following his call-up, he will no longer be eligible to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria if he plays even a few seconds for Die Mannschaft.
Nonetheless, Atubolu couldn’t be bothered about Nigeria or the Super Eagles. Rather, he is excited that he will get a chance to represent the country of his birth at senior level.

“I’m going to the national team with the hope of absorbing everything and learning. It’s a great honour for me to be on the German national team,” Atubolu said, per Inter news.
Why Noah Atubolu’s Call-Up Is A Big Blow For Nigeria
Noah Atubolu’s decision to represent Germany at senior level is a big blow for the Super Eagles, as he is a quality goalkeeper.
He is good with his feet, quick, and has a great command of his area. He is just 23 years of age, so there is still room for improvement.

Also, unlike Maduka Okoye, Atubolu would give Stanley Nwabali a big run for his money in the goalkeeping department for the Super Eagles.
Moreover, Nwabali will be 30 by next June, which means he does not have a lot of years in him anymore. With a goalie like Atubolu, that department would be secure for the next nine years at least.
